You will first fly over Chat Moss, a large area of peat bog, which is thought to be over 7,000 years old. Several peat bodies have been discovered in and around Chat Moss dating from the Iron Age. The Manchester to Liverpool railway proved a challenge when they tried to cross the bog but a ‘floating’ railway line was eventually built by George Stephenson and still in use today. Its then on to Bolton.

It is said that Boltonians are the friendliest folk in Britain. In the 19th Century Bolton was a boomtown with 216 cotton mills and was one of the largest and most productive cotton spinning centres in the world. It was the target of one of the first areal bombings in history in 1916; a Zeppelin dropped 21 bombs on the town. You will then head south after flying over the famous Reebok stadium, home of the Bolton wanderers, heading over Atherton and Leigh before landing back at Barton.
